GENERAL FEST INQUIRIES
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT THE FILM FEST?
A film festival is a group of non-commercialized films collected to screen for the public to enjoy. At BraveMaker we have several groups of screenings, based on specific themes. Each screening has either a group of short films, a feature film and short film, or a feature film alone to watch. Most screenings have a Q & R (question and response we call them, instead of Q+A’s) session or panel interview following the films with the creators and sometimes even the actors. Those are purely voluntary. You can ask the filmmakers questions about the film, or you can watch the Filmmakers answer questions that others ask. This year we have art exhibitions, workshops, maker meet-ups AND stand-up comedy shows!
WILL I BE ASKED AN QUESTIONS AT THE FESTIVAL?
No. You can come and enjoy just being a viewer. We do not force people into conversations. At the end of most films we have Q&R time (question and response) with the filmmakers who are in attendance which is facilitated by a moderator. The moderator will invite some questions from the audience but you are by no means required to participate. We merely encourage our audience to listen to the conversations.
IS THIS A RED CARPET EVENT WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?
Yes we do have a red carpet and step and repeat for photos but it is also very casual. Come as you feel comfortable. Dress to the nines or wear a t-shirt and shorts.
IS IT OK TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH THE FILMMAKERS?
Always ask first … but yes, they want to engage with the audiences.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO WATCH ALL OF THE FILMS?
Purchase an ALL ACCESS PASS. This gets you into all films, workshops & parties. Individual tickets for the film blocks are also available.
CAN I BRING MY KIDS TO THE FESTIVAL?
The Family Friendly Film Block has a group of short films that all family members will enjoy Saturday morning at 10am. There will also be some live music! We suggest the event for children ages 6+, although this is not mandatory. All other films, although not rated officially by the MPAA, are better suited for ages thirteen and up.
ARE THERE SENSITIVE SUBJECTS IN YOUR FILMS?
Yes, some have material that can be found sensitive. Some of our films express strong themes that might be sensitive to different groups of people. Some films shine light on racism, violence, life altering decisions, the LGBTQ+ community, religion, disability, deportation, unethical treatment of animals and addiction.
All in all we stand by our curated selection of brave films in hopes that these stories elevate these topics out into the world and create life-changing conversations. Our goal is to create a safe environment for these topics to be brought to light.
